cover The Bipolar Child, by Demitri F. Papolos, M.D. and Janice Papolos
This book is the "Bible" for parents of bipolar children. If you even suspect your child might have bipolar disorder, get this book and read it. It won't help you with homeschooling, but it will help you understand what is going on with your child, what your options are and how to find the resources you need. It also contains a lengthy chapter on medications.

cover Survival Strategies for Parenting Children with Bipolar Disorder, by George T. Lynn
One of the many books now available for parents of children with bipolar disorder.

cover

If Your Child is Bipolar, by Cindy Singer and Sheryl Gurrentz
One of the many books now available for parents of children with bipolar disorder.

cover The Ups and Downs of Raising a Bipolar Child, by Judith Lederman and Candida Fink, M.D.
One of the many books now available for parents of children with bipolar disorder.

cover The Explosive Child, by Ross W. Greene, PhD
Another "must read" for parents of children who have rages. It is recommended in "bipolar circles" almost as often as The Bipolar Child. I found it to be good at explaining what was going on with my daughter but felt the recommendations were unrealistic. But now, much further into the process, I see that many of the recommendations are vital. Especially the excellent way of handling the "pick your battles carefully".

cover Love and Anger: The Parental Dilemma, by Nancy Samalin
This book helped me understand my anger and made me much more supportive of my child.

cover Stop Walking on Eggshells, by Paul T. Mason, M.S. and Randi Kreger
This book is really about dealing with people who have Borderline Personality Disorder, however, the symptoms are very similar to bipolar disorder. The advice in this book may help you deal with what your child may say or do. Remember, Borderline Personality Disorder is not usually diagnosed until someone is a teenager or young adult and seems to be more "intentional" in the things the person says or does. Some believe it is caused by severely bad parenting, but many are beginning to believe it is, like bipolar disorder, a chemical imbalance in the brain.
